The Band

Grant McArthur

what happens when I move my mouse over Grant's picture? Will I see a more attractive side?

The Baby of the band - the bass player, the strings that hold the band together with the "solid bass line" Grant is renowned as a World Champion Bass drum Player. Grant stands at the back of the band and generally doesn't step into the limelight - some folk just don't need to!

 

 

Ross Macdonald

Ross is the male vocals of the band, providing a "Hugely Strong" voice... Tried to make myself sound good there, but I have no idea what to say... The rest of the band are all musicians, I just sing.... It's good fun, it's a laugh, it's nice to sing with this band - they are all incredibly good at what they do. I don't know what to say about myself. I must be good if I sing with all these guys...

 

Lucy McAra

Lucy is an art and Drama Teacher.... awfully good at all sorts of craft type things, a life led by the arts - not only talented at arty type things, but not too bad a singer as well !!

Jazz tinted voice with a strong influence of the blues - from soulful melodies to laid back melancholic tunes, Lucy can deliver the full array. Not wanting to sound sexist...but Lucy is a typical female.... more shoes than any male will ever have - every night singing brings another style (and another handbag!) Come along and hear Lucy sing - a real treat.

 

Jim King

Can't find a good photo of Jim behind the drums... they are normally all blurred from the drum sticks waving about.... quite a player. Talented. Probably the Dr of the band. I have no idea if Jim has his doctorate yet, but as a university lecturer in.... something.... he is by far the best qualified person in the band. Jim started the band with Gordon, so I presume that he is partly responsible for the name also.

Salsa Celtica, Isle of Skye, millions of other bands that he has told me about.... but I am useless with names... Regardless, Jim has probably played with most musicians in Scotland - anywhere he goes, there is normally a djembe a bhoran and a set of drumsticks attached to his body somewhere! Jim is fantastic on the drums. Normally excellent, he takes the occasional mad turn and reminds us that he is not excellent. He is actually phenomenal on the drums!

 

Ronnie Leahy

OK... not the best picture, but any time we go to take a picture of Ronnie, we end up just marvelling at his playing... Ronnie is a virtuoso... I still have no idea what that means, but I have a fair idea that it suggest he's particularly good at what he does. Where can I possibly begin to start??? Ronnie....listen to him, watch him play... I have no idea what he does to make the keyboards scream and wail with pleasure, but not only is it a pleasure to listen to, it is a pleasure to be in the company of the gentleman of the band... Oh, and he's played for various bands too... Nazareth, Stone the Crows etc etc. (should maybe have mentioned that earlier, but got caught up - he's awful good!!)

 

 

Gordon Neish

The boss man of the band - and with good reason. Gordon started the band along with Jim, and is our Musical director and manager - gordon is responsible for the arrangements, the set lists, the lot. "He's better than Clapton, Man, So he is...." That is a direct quote from.....well.... some drunk bloke. Gordon is fantastic!!! An array of Guitars, each of which gets played in a different unique manner for the best possible sound. Gordon is a Thespian, a musician; "cooncillor" Neish (Like his better half, Lucy) has also had a life led by the arts - a graphic designer by day .....In fact.. Gordon, why am I doing this website, I don't know the first thing about designy arty stuff!!!

Anyway.... Gordon does. Very creative, very talented and if it were not for him especially, Dr Blue and the Hip Operation would not be where it is today
